Lighting Your Dream Home
One common question many home owners ponder is how they can have cohesive lighting throughout the home. That's why I'm excited to share some of these tips and knowledge with you to streamline the process!
Let's get you familiar with the 3 Types of lighting.
- Ambient (or General)
This one most people have heard of. Ambient lighting is the calm, broad (typically overhead) lower intensity lighting that brightens up a room. It's purpose is to dominate the landscape of an open space and assists in general activities that are not visually demanding.
-Task
Task lighting is the direct lighting that illuminates specific tasks through direct, high intensity lighting. The 2 most common home examples of this are lamps and under cabinet lighting,
-Accent
Also known as decorative lighting. Accent lighting may lack functionality, but it's the bow that ties everything together in a beautiful and modern light-conscience space. This can be your table lamps to your picture frame backlights, and much more.
So how can they all shine together in tandem? The cohesion doesn't just come from including all 3, but making sure they all have united brightness, intensities, and color temperatures! Adjusting the brightness depending on each lighting system's type and specific purpose will ensure an even, uniform look in a space. But, where you need consistency to achieve harmony, is in the color temperature of the lights. Typically choosing either 2700K or 3000K (and similar lumens) for a subtle, daytime warmth to any space.
